Alex K Pauling is an artist. He has created many movies, written many songs and poems. He has written one book. He won an award for his video production "Don't Fade Away" and Koplik scholarship (mastery with distinction), and won a regional Poetry Out Loud contest. Since he is mostly self-taught in these endeavors, he hopes to improve his technical skills and nurture his talents in film-making at UMass-Amherst. Alex’s mother (former Genentech) is a CEO of ActoKine Therapeutics; his father is a VP at Amgen, his grandfather was a professor at Caltech, and his great-grandfather, Linus Pauling, won two Nobel Prizes (in 1954 for Chemistry, in 1962 for Peace).
